Developers eye myriad options for vacant central Takapuna site

A vibrant retail space, trendy eatery, modern boutique office hub or luxury accommodation are among the development possibilities mooted for a rare vacant site in Takapuna’s town centre.

The nearly 500 square metres of freehold land just off busy arterial Lake Road sits within a short walk of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops, as well as Takapuna’s famous beach.

It is one of few vacant sites in the suburb’s Metropolitan Centre, a zone allowing a myriad of uses and the highest intensity of development outside Auckland’s city centre.

The freehold land at 4 Blomfield Spa, Takapuna, Auckland, is being marketed for sale on behalf of Auckland Council, by Ranjan Unka and Michael Nees of Bayleys Commercial North Shore.

The property will be sold by deadline private treaty closing on Thursday 7 December, unless it is sold earlier.

“This rare vacant landholding promises an array of options for those looking to create something exceptional in the heart of one of Auckland’s most coveted suburbs,” said Unka.

Business – Metropolitan Centre zoning under the Auckland Unitary Plan provides for an array of possible uses including high-density residential, retail, hospitality and office.

The zone applies to a handful of the region’s most important centres which are identified for further growth and intensification.

“This flexible, intensive zoning is one of this site’s most compelling features, supercharging the possibilities available to new owners and developers.

“A commercial or residential development here will be well positioned to reap the benefits of ongoing development trends in this thriving centre.

“A prime location just off Lake Road ensures visibility and accessibility to local residents and visitors alike,” Unka said

Nees said the immediate surroundings were rich in hospitality and retail offerings plus a range of quality childcare, primary and secondary schools, while the wider catchment was home to an affluent, well-educated population and skilled workforce.

“The surrounding neighbourhood has seen numerous recent projects, with more in the pipeline, indicating a bright future for the suburb and the property for sale. A number of successful developments have achieved record rental rates thanks to the high demand associated with Takapuna’s status as the North Shore’s premier commercial centre.

“Takapuna is undergoing an extraordinary transformation, with a future vision focusing on intensification, high-quality urban design, civic amenities and good access to community facilities, green spaces and public transport.

“This underpins the suburb’s future as one of Auckland’s most sought-after and attractive places to live, invest and do business,” Nees said.
